Rome: Seorang budak lelaki Itali berusia 13 tahun disahkan ketagih permainan. Lorenzo Amato dikejarkan ke hospital oleh bapanya yang bimbangkan anaknya itu mengalami stroke berikutan remaja terbabit tidak memberi sebarang tindak balas terhadap keadaan sekeliling beliau.

Doktor yang merawat beliau pada mulanya menyangka Amato mengalami masalah otak yang serius. Remaja terbabit tidak dapat bercakap langsung dan langsung tak memahami apa yang berlaku di sekelilingnya. Doktor bagaimanapun mengenal pasti masalah berkenaan selapas mendapati Amato baru saja menanmatkan sesi maraton permainan video beliau yang baru. Remaja terbabit kemudiannya meminta bapanya membuang permainan video berkenaan.

As we all know, yesterday we had wonderful session in paeds CME. nice lunch (sedap betol rib kambing tu, mmg nak lagi lah), nice presentations & quite a tough quiz. in the afternoon session, we had a quiz given by our beloved pf gururaj. the questions are quite tough, i wud say it is at paediatrician level. in the end it was doctors who win the prize.however it quite chalenge our mind. it was a very good session. there is one presentations that i remember most is in the end, bcoz only then i could understand how inflixamab works on rheumotology disease, dr 3rd year dulu mmg x paham2... a big thanx to dr tang & other paeds team.

anyway, just want to share b4 that nice lunch which was sponsered by drug company Novartis (mana x sponsor beli drug iron chelator therapy dgn die sebulan RM3000 utk sorang patient), we had a lecture by Dr Fauzi on common paeds & adolescent psy probs. what caught my mind here particularly is regarding susbstance abuse. in substance abuse, patient can be clasified into 4 stages of substance abuse

1.introduction
2.regular use
3.abuse
4.dependence

it is in stage 3 & 4 where it become a national prob bcoz there is presence of loss of function and social withdrawal.

then she also talked about cyber addiction (which is very3 sooo common among us). it is addiction towards anything with cyber world, eg internet, multiplayer game, video game, mukebuku, frester, blogging???, and sooo on...
the symptoms & sign here are quite the same with substance abuse.
treatment? later la i tell... prognosis depends on whether u have insight or not.

insight = good prognosis
no insight = poor prognosis

however, i want to stress (bukan stress ECG) here that treatment for both these categories are the same which is STOP!
